The material study for this design came from an antique birchbark snuffbox that originated in Myanmar. It is made from a long continuous strip of bark that ends in a loop which binds the box. Several wooden nails pin the layers which are then chip carved to create the fish-scales pattern on the surface. I added a strip of summer bark inside the box to make it smooth and used Lime wood to carve the airtight lid and base.
