Taramundi Style Pocket Knife
Taramundi Style Pocket Knife
Inspired by Taramundi Navajas from the west of Spain, this is a very old type of handmade friction folder meant for everyday personal use from the garden to the cutting board.
Blade is hammer forged from 80cvr2 steel and is approximately 80mm x 15mm x 1.25mm - Geometry is extremely flat and thin convex with a small micro bevel, meant to be frequently touched up and easily kept deadly against tomatoes, salami or a cardboard box on pocket or bench stones.
Both the blade pivot as well as the hand formed Ferrule are 316 stainless steel, pressure fit to the mild curly birch handle using homemade tooling for my bow lathe. The slot for the blade is cut with a Japanese saw and the handle is carved, sanded smooth and finished with satin tru oil.
These are thoroughly handmade and each is perfectly not-perfect, with its own personality. While interpreting my inspiration I did my best to strickly hold the tradition of the originals without being totally derivative.
80crv2, 316 stainless steel, bronze bushings, curly white birch.
